Bring Back the Black Swimwear
Black is the new black.
Selecting swimwear should simply come down to a matter of preference (and style, for those who care). Nowadays, we’re pretty desensitised to nudity. Well, perhaps not entirely, but it’s the 21st Century and we very well should be.
Don’t get me wrong, bikinis are great. They’re great when the bottoms fill with sand while you’re sunbaking, they’re great when the top flies off in the ocean on a crowded day and they’re great when you only pack half a pair for your holiday.
Neiman Marcus famously said, “Women who wear black lead colourful lives.” I could not agree more. The black one-piece is back and it’s rivalling the bikini for our favourite seaside swimwear.
We don’t want our clothes to outshine us. Unless it’s a wedding dress. But even then, it’s the person donning the fabric who will be shining that day. The black one-piece may not live up to a custom Vera Wang but it’s elegant, feminine and dare I say, sexy.
Anything that Chanel creates, JLo rocks, Elizabeth Taylor loved, and you can ride a bicycle in should be purchased and worn over and over again. You can stuff your face with food in your one-piece and even cannonball in your one-piece. It’s almost impossible to argue against its moment in fashion right now.
We’ve dabbled with the high-rise ’kini and the full affair of floral so let’s pare it back and bake in the this fabulous black swimwear.
