It’s not every day that you hear of a former female motocross athlete launching their own fashion label. But that’s exactly how the story goes behind Whyte Studio, the new label from Brisbane-born Bianca Whyte.
Inspired by her mum Lynne’s sense of style, Bianca found herself wanting to design her own motocross uniforms. After graduating from MSIT, Bianca began working as a designer for the hugely-popular Kardashian Kollection brand, where she worked closely with the famous sisters and was inspired by their #girlboss mentality.
Later moving to London to work for another label, Bianca developed the desire to create her own label. And so, Whyte Studio was born.
We caught up with Bianca off the back of the launch of Whyte Studio at MBFWA and LFW.
How do you think growing up in Brisbane influenced your label?
It influenced me by taking advantage of the amazing outdoors and my passion for motocross racing (introduced to me by my dad) and I got into fashion because I was inspired to design a womenswear motocross line.
Where do you draw inspiration from for your designs?
My travel and lifestyle across the US and UK and of course music.
Were you always interested in fashion growing up?
Yes, through my mum. She was always trying to make me more ‘girlie’.
You work closely with your mum, Lynne. How is that?
We work really well as a team, I focus on all the creative and mum manages the business end.
What made you choose to pursue a career in fashion?
I originally wanted to continue my career as a professional motocross rider and wanted to design my own motocross clothes. The design and making of these pieces started to take over and it soon became my new passion. My mum also inspired me through her own love for fashion.
Describe a typical day for you…
I start very early in the morning around 7am usually with checking in with mum in Brisbane, meeting with my team in London, going through my designs and production which is all done locally. I usually grab lunch on the go and drink lots of coffee throughout the day. I love to finish the day with a gym session and a glass of wine with my partner, Ange overlooking London Tower Bridge.
As a business woman, how do you stay motivated?
I like to keep fit and of course DJ’ing. Music keeps me motivated!
What are three things you think every woman should own?
Leather jacket, a choker and luxury backpack.
You’re also an accomplished DJ, how do you see music and fashion combining? (Also, is there anything you’re NOT good at?!) Music inspires me to make fashion, I would love Whyte Studio to be a staple to music artists around the world. I am not good at patience!
