Whoever said Instagram is losing its allure of influence clearly hasn’t seen my saved folder. A few scrolls past multiple saves of Toteme’s new leather jacket and you’ll smoothly transition into a grid slated by blue and gold packaging. Welcome to the world of Augustinus Bader.
But who is Augustinus Bader (pronounced Bah-der) and what is the cream? This $400 face cream first captured my attention when I saw Victoria Beckham post about it, and since that moment, it’s like it’s been stalking me on Instagram.
From celebrities like Candice Swanepoel, Kate Bosworth, Diane Kruger to Kim Kardashian, Alexa Chung, Troy Surratt and Erin Foster, there doesn’t seem to be a celebrity vanity (or epidermis) that this cream hasn’t touched. And it’s not just celebrities that are touting the benefits of this infamous cream, with makeup artists, Tobi Henney, Violette and famed skin therapist Melanie Grant all joining in singing its praises.
Simply put, if three’s a trend, then this creams cult following is about to start a revolution. But, before we go and forget moisturiser altogether, does this product actually go beyond the hype?
While the name and brand philosophy might be simple, and with only two products in its repertoire (The Cream, and The Rich Cream), the science behind this product is anything but. Cleverly marketed as “the cream that works”, the brand was created by Augustinus Bader, famed for the magic essences that he formulated whilst working with burn victims.
A professor of applied stem cell biology and biomedical scientist, Bader has been working to heal some of the most damaged and vulnerable of skins for over 30 years. Incorporating these learning’s, he has applied the same cell-boosting ingredients found in his hydrogels (designed to be applied to burns) within his new line of creams. Bader’s philosophy is centred on his belief in our bodies’ innate ability to heal and regenerate, whilst utilising stem cell technology “to activate and orchestrate the body’s innate regenerative process”.
With a substantial ingredients list, it must be noted that the standout is Bader’s proprietary Trigger Factor Complex or what he likes to call “TFC8”, which is rich in natural amino acids and skin-essential vitamins.
Interestingly, Bader strongly believes that “The Cream” can replace every step of your routine, which we’ll admit, is a big call. It’s suggested that when first using the cream you submit to a routine that excludes everything but your cleanser for the first 28 days. Given the chance, the brand claims you’ll see increased hydration, brightness and plumpness. Long term use will step the results up a notch, to seeing improvement in wrinkles, fine lines, age spots and redness, along with an increase in overall skin health – what more could you ask for.
So, is The Cream worth the hype? The verdicts in, and we’re sold. Shop it now.
