The Distance to the Sun

Live-Media

The work starts with words spoken by Bob Lazar, an American physician with a controversial personality. Some people consider him to be one of the few witnesses of the relationships between American scientists and and alien beings in the area S-4, one of the most top secret military places of the United States. In The distance to the sun Nevada desert shapes an inner and far mind location for a unique deep experience, between imagery, memories, and misterious events, all around the 51 area, travelling the Extraterrestrial-375-Highway, the town of Rachel, Mount Palomar Observatory and Cielo Drive in Los Angeles, California. The live-media version of the film The distance to the sun by Andrea Dojmi (supported by Xing and presented at the 2007 edition of Flora in Firenze), now leads to Netmage 09, after a series in 2008 of 13 international festivals: Torino Film Festival, Festival Noveau Cinema Montreal, Lausanne Underground Film Festival, Davide Gallo Galerie Berlin, Mirfestival Athens, Cinencorto – International Mexican Film Festival, Strasbourg International Film Festival, Festival de Cannes/short film corner 2008, Artfest Film Festival Harrisburg, New York International Indipendent Film Festival, Athens Video Art Festival 08, Ybor Festival of Moving Image, Athens Usa Film Festival.

Andrea Dojmi, living in Milano and Roma, is a visual artist, filmmaker and surfer who bases his research on the use of a variety of media: photography, super8, single 8 (in Japanese format) and 16mm film, electronic music, installations and performance. Points of departure are childhood and adolescence, reports on organizations and environments typical of the formal education system. His videos and live media (Education and protection of our chidren, music by Port-Royal, produced by Netmage for the 2006 edition) sublimate months of research in the field into a compact flow of pre-school and pre-adolescent memories (often in the form of educational documentary), in a synthesis of myths and vague omens, incantations and personal rarefactions. Dojmi has exhibited in solo shows (No place like home, Progr, Bern, 2007; Aimready, La Fabbrica, Losone and Summer Kids training camp, La Rada, Locarno, 2005) as well as group shows (including Public Improvisations, careof/vafarini/la fabbrica del vapore, Milano; Video report Italia, GCAM, Monfalcone; Daydream Fields, Fondazione Claudio Buziol, Venezia).

Alessandro Massobrio aka Flushing Device, from Turin, has alternated his studies between contemporary music and philosophy, specializing from 1998 in hermeneutic ontology with Gianni Vattimo. Active as a guitarist in diverse musical formations and discographic projects, he has ranged from psychedelic folk-rock to pop-electronic, also working as a sound designer for theatrical productions and live media. In 2006 he released Event Horizon on the Betulla label, an EP inspired by macroscopic dimensions in nature. Massobrio uses various instruments and sound sources as testers to measure electrical signals, function generators, magnetic tape, ambient microphone recordings and guitar elaborated in real time by computer, creating long, immersive, undulating harmonic clusters. Flushing Device has performed in various European research festivals and released work on Betulla records, Simultan e Sinewaves.
