On Saturday, October 12, the Vogue Australia team stepped on stage at the Canberra Centre’s inaugural Temple of Beauty Festival to host our very own beauty and fashion-focussed question and answer session.
Taking the microphone to talk all things trends, our senior beauty and health editor, Remy Rippon, and market editor, Kaila Matthews, along with the session’s host, fashion and lifestyle blogger Janette Wojtaszak—who moderated the session—shared their industry experience in their respective roles with every question and query that was thrown their way by either Wojtaszak or the audience.
Kicking off the panel with a little career-oriented content, both Rippon and Matthews talked the audience through a typical day in their work lives, transporting them with their words to the excitement-inducing atmosphere of a celebrity cover shoot, and detailing the best part of their jobs to the undoubtedly curious ears.
Following the careers portion of the Q&A, Matthews stepped up to guide attendees through the biggest fashion trends leading into spring, and how we can update our wardrobes with these specific trends in mind.
Bold prints, bright pops of colour, puffed sleeves and relaxed suiting were tapped as the market editor’s top picks for wardrobe must-haves this season, along with timeless wardrobe staples, including the classic washed blue straight leg jean and always relevant black blazer.
Once Matthews wrapped her report on trend predictions, Rippon took the reins to talk all things spring and summer-approved beauty. Touching on the most exciting make-up trends for the current season, the beauty and health editor also talked the audience through her favourite make-up look at the moment: the pink lid.
As Rippon talked to attendees about the look, the make-up artist and model on hand demonstrated to onlookers how they would go about achieving this look, applying a magenta-hued shadow to the eyelid and softening it to create a smoky look.
Topping the look off with a barely-there base and a touch of pink on the lip, the easy-to-achieve tonal look—one which has dominated red carpet beauty looks in the recent months—was complete and ready for the audience’s taking.
